Vladimir Vasiliev: “What happened in Kazan was complete junction of the stage action and the audience”

In an interview with Tatar-inform, the choreographer confessed the Dona Nobis Pacem world premiere was great happiness for him.

(Kazan, 15 April, Tatar-inform, Lucia Kamalova). A show called Dona Nobis Pacem (Give Us Peace) based on Bach’s Mass in Bi Minor has premiered in Kazan. The producer is the outstanding choreographer and dancer Vladimir Vasiliev.

Give Us Peace was shown to Kazan audience on 14-15 April and was on both nights welcomed by cries ‘bravo’ and an ovation.

After the stunning success, Musa Jalil Opera and Ballet Theatre’s director Raufal Mukhametzianov and Vladimir Vasiliev shared their impressions with Tatar-inform.

“I think the show worked out well, because it is a most difficult job, very sophisticated, it is a kind of synthesis of all genres, when each instrument works, resulting in the wholeness, which is the goal of this stage version,” Raufal Mukhametzianov said, adding a show like that was good enough be presented in any part of the world.

He went on to recall that 18 April was Vladimir Vasiliev’s 75th birthday, on which day the performance would be shown on Bolshoi Theatre’s historical stage.

“We are preparing for this event, we are, of course, anxious,” he said.

Dona Nobis Pacem was not targeted at the wide audience, he stressed, adding that the performance could be used to open the Chaliapin Festival or Nureev Festival in 2016.

In an interview with Tatar-inform Vladimir Vasiliev noted that what happened in Kazan “was complete junction of stage action and the audience”.

“This does not happen all too often, you know. This is what pleases me most. I saw half of the audience’s moistened eyes at the last Agunda aria, because they simply cleansed themselves today. This is what matters most. The people who were on stage sang, danced and played beautifully. It truly a hit, a bull’s eye, as they say,” he shared.

Immediately after the brief interview Vasiliev was surrounded by show’s participants congratulating him on the outstanding premiere and asking for a photo opportunity to memorise the historical event.
