Dates of Nureyev Festival 2015 announced

(Kazan, 18 March, Tatar-inform). The 28th classical ballet festival named after Rudolf Nureyev will take place at Tatar Academic State Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Musa Jalil on 15-29 May.

The opening piece will be a revision of Ludwig Minkus’ Don Quixote. The show that, until recently, was presented in its 1993 version will be renovated, gaining new scenery and costumes, as well as changes in the musical text and choreography. The choreography is by Marius Petipa and Alexander Gorsky.

The ballet event’s programme includes best classical performances: Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, Adam’s Giselle and Minkus’ La Bayadere.

Twentieth century Soviet classics presented will be Anyuta, based on Valery Gavrilin’s music and produced by Vladimir Vasiliev.

The programme includes two auteur shows, The Golden Horde national ballet by Roza Akhiyarova, staged by Grigory Kovtun, and Carmina Burana, or Wheel of Fortune mystery by Carl Orff with choreography by Alexander Polubentsev.

The 28th ballet pageant will conclude with two gala concerts.

Republic of Belarus Opera and Ballet Theatre will, within the Nureyev Festival, come on tour to Kazan. The Minsk company will present three one-act ballets: Bizet/Schedrin’s Carmen Suite and Ravel’s Bolero, both choreographed by Valentin Yelizariev, as well as Mozart-based Six Dances, choreographed by Jiri Kylian.

The festival’s guests will appear in Kazan on 24 and 25 May.

Tickets to the festival will go on sale on 2 April, theatre’s press service has said.
