The Elixir of Love opera to be presented within Chaliapin Festival

Production’s musical director and conductor is Vincent de Kort.

(Kazan, 4 February, Tatar-inform). The 33rd Chaliapin Festival is underway at Tatar Academic State Opera and Ballet Theatre after Musa Jalil.

The opening took place on 1 February; the festival will conclude on 17 February.

Tonight, the audience will be offered the two-act opera The Elixir of Love by Gaetano Donizetti.

The storyline is quite simple. Nemorino is in love with Adina but cannot bring himself to declare his love. To become bolder, he buys a ‘miraculous’ love potion from the healer Dulcamara. The potion turns out to be common wine and has no effect on the young man. He has no money to buy a second serving – so he enlists with Belcore’s regiment as a soldier. Watching the young man suffer, Adina buys Nemorino’s army contract out from Belcore and nearly confesses her feelings for him.

The production’s musical director and conductor is Vincent de Kort (the Netherlands). The stage director is Yuri Alexandrov (Saint-Petersburg). The part of Adina is played by Evgenia Afanasieva of Moscow Music Theatre, Nemorino is performed by Alexei Tatarintsev of Moscow’s New Opera theatre.
