Singers from Russia, Europe and US to perform lead parts at Chaliapin Festival

The list includes world opera masters Albina Shagimuratova, Mikhail Svetlov-Krutikov, Mikhail Kazakov, Agunda Kulayeva, Alexei Tikhomirov, and others.

(Kazan, 29 January, Tatar-inform). The 33rd international festival named after Fedor Chaliapin will take place on the stage of Tatar Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after Musa Dzhalil on 1-17 February.

On the opening day, festive events marking the 140th anniversary of Kazan opera will take place. The festival’s programme includes Dzhalil theatre’s best productions of recent years, Turandot, Evgeny Onegin, Rigoletto, Aida, La Traviata, Carmen, Madame Butterfly, and The Barber of Seville. The season’s premiere, The Elixir of Love, is part of the programme as well.

On Chaliapin’s birthday, Boris Godunov will be presented.

A concert performance of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess is a much-anticipated event.

Two galas will traditionally conclude the festival, participants in which will be world opera stars, the theatre’s press service has said.

The opera event pursues its ‘festival of voices’ policy, the lead parts in all shows to be performed by guest solo singers from Russia, Europe and the US. The list includes world opera masters Albina Shagimuratova (Dzhalil Theatre, Metropolitan Opera), Mikhail Svetlov-Krutikov (Metropolitan Opera), Mikhail Kazakov, Agunda Kulayeva, Alexei Tikhomirov (Bolshoi Theatre), and others.
