Thirty third Shalyapin Festival to take place in Kazan between 1 and 17 February

Tickets will go on sale on 18 December.

(Kazan, 11 December, Tatar-inform). On 17 December 2015, the 33rd Shalyapin Opera Festival will open at Tatarstan’s Musa Jalil Opera and Ballet Theatre. The Russian oldest opera event’s programme includes eleven shows and two galas with the participation of guest performers from ten countries. Various events dedicated to Kazan opera’s 140th anniversary will take place within the festival.

Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot, staged by Mikhail Pandzhavidze, is to open the forum on 1 February. Puccini’s last masterpiece will be presented by singers from Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Russia. On 3 February, a George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess concert performance will be presented by Derrick Lawrence (US), Miriam Clarke (Germany), Lester Lynch (US), Neil Nelson (US), Ronald Samm (UK), Melba Ramos (Austria), and Indra Thomas (US).

The audience will see a stunning cast in Aida on 6 February, the lead parts to be performed by Susanna Branchini (Italy), Dario di Vietri (Italy), Annunziata Vestri (Italy), Lester Lynch (US), Mikhail Kazankov (Bolshoi Theatre, Jalil Theatre), and Sergei Kovnir (Shevchenko National Opera of Ukraine).

On 7 February, Elena Maksimova of Moscow’s Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theatre will appear as Carmen in eponymous show, with Jose’a part to be performed by Kazan audience’s darling Ahmed Agadi of Mariinsky Theatre. On 8 February, The Barber of Seville comic opera with lead singers from Russia and US will be shown.

Tickets to the festival will go on sale on 18 December. More information is available on www.kazan-opera.ru, theatre’s press service has said.
