Chaliapin Festival 2014’s first gala concert to take place in Kazan

This year it marks the 140th anniversary of the Kazan opera.

(Kazan, 17 February, Tatar-inform). The 32nd Chaliapin Opera Festival concludes in Kazan. The first gala concert will take place on the stage of Musa Jalil Tatar Opera and Ballet Theatre tonight.

This year’s event marks the 140th anniversary of the Kazan opera. The programme included ten shows and two galas, involving guest performers from ten countries. The international opera forum traditionally opened with a premiere, Giachino Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, staged by director Yuriy Alexandrov, conductor Marco Boemi and designer Viktor Gerasimenko.

A concert version of Porgy and Bess by G. Gershwin was another premiere. The operas Aida by G. Verdi, Carmen by G. Bizet, Rigoletto by G. Verdi, Evgeny Onegin by P. Tchaikovsky, La Traviata by G. Verdi, Boris Godunov by M. Musorgsky and Turandot by G. Puccini were performed as well.

The concluding gala concert featuring all the opera stars participating in the festival is scheduled for tomorrow.
