Twenty sixth Nureyev Festival to be dedicated to great dancer’s 75th anniversary


(Kazan, March 15, Tatar-inform). The world public will this Sunday mark what would have been great dancer Rudolf Nureyev’s 75th birthday (1938-1993).

The 26th international classic ballet festival, to be held at the Tatar Opera and Ballet Theatre in Kazan, will mark the date.

“The flying Tatar”, “the Genghis Khan of ballet”, wild and unique, Rudolf Nureyev through his creative work largely amended the classic dance performance culture, greatly influencing our perception of the role of a personality in art.

Shortly before his death, Rudolf Nureyev for the first time visited Kazan. At the invitation of the Tatar Opera and Ballet Theatre director, he on 21 May, 1992, performed within a ballet festival on the stage of the Tatar Opera Theatre. Maestro then conducted the Nutcracker show, after which consented to the festival in Kazan being given his name.

Participants in the 26th edition of the Rudolf Nureyev festival will be acknowledged masters of the world stage, principal dancers from Russian and European theatres. The festival’s programme includes 9 shows and 3 concerts, theatre’s press service has said.

Tickets to the Nureyev Festival 2013 will go on sale on 5 April. The programme, list of participants and price of tickets will be announced later.
