Boris Godunov opera to be presented on Fedor Shaliapin’s birthday in Kazan

(Kazan, February 12, Tatar-inform, Rufina Mubarakshina). On Fedor Shaliapin’s 140th birthday, 13 February, the opera Boris Godunov will be presented on the stage of the Tatar State Opera and Ballet Theatre.

The People’s Artiste of Tatarstan, and Bolshoi Theatre lead singer, Mikhail Kazakov, performs the Godunov’s part. The Mariin Theatre principal performer, Fedor Kuznetsov, performs the Valaam’s part, Tatar Opera and Ballet Theatre’s deputy director, Yuri Larionov, on Tuesday said at a news conference in Kazan.

Present at the conference were Fedor Kuznetsov, music journalist Nikolai Rybinsky, Kazan Shaliapin Society president, Alfia Tutaeva, and Church of Yaroslavl Miracle Workers superior, Alexei Chubakov.

“Despite that I am Fedor Ivanovich’s Shaliapin’s namesake, we are never compared,” Mariin Theatre lead singer, Fedor Kuznetsov, shared. “Shaliapin is a rock. I have performed each part in the Boris Godunov opera, this time it is going to be the part of Varlaam, an image of a Russian monk.”

“On 14 and 15 February, Mariin Theatre principals will give galas, and will sing in a premiere of Jules Massenet’s Don Quixote,” Y. Larionov added. The part of Don Quixote, he explained, had been specifically composed for the singer, whom Massenet had had friendly relations with.
