Tatar Opera and Ballet Theatre closes 72nd season

(Kazan, July 4, Tatar-inform). The Tatar Theatre of Opera and Ballet closes its 72nd season.

On this day, Aida by Verdi will be performed. The cast includes Shaliapin Festival stars, singers from Germany, Ukraine and Russia, including Irina Gagite, Akhmed Agadi, Angelina Shvachka, Sergey Kovnir and others. The spectacular show presents choir singers, ballet and mimic ensemble dancers, and the orchestra. The conductor is Renat Salavatov.

Aida will be the final performance in the charity drive Theatre For War Veterans and Home Front Workers, held this summer with the support of the Kazan Helicopter Plant. Over 2,500 WWII veterans have within the campaign been able to watch free 11 performances, including Nabucco, The Magic Flute, Carmen, The Lady Of The Camelias and others. The Kazan Helicopters allocated 1 million roubles, to sponsor the campaign.

Aida is one of the world’s most popular classic operas. The Mariin Theatre director Alexey Stepankov first staged the show in Kazan in 2000. The scenery is based on the outstanding theatre designer Evgeny Chemodurov’s designs. The play has many times been shown during theatre’s foreign tours. In the next season, the opera will again be shown in Europe, 16 performances are scheduled for October 2011 in the Netherlands, the theatre’s press service reports.
