Anyuta premiers successfully at Tatar Opera and Ballet Theatre

The ballet premiered in 1986 at Teatro di San Carlo in Naples.

(Kazan, June 24, Tatar-inform, Lucia Kamalova). The ballet Anyuta on Thursday with great éclat premiered at the Tatar Academic State Theatre of Opera and Ballet. The music is composed by Valery Gavrilin, the choreography is by the outstanding dancer Vladimir Vasiliev.

The ballet is based on the famous story by Anton Chekhov “Anna on the neck”. It was first dramatised as a TV play and later made into a screen version. The TV ballet film was directed by the director Belinsky and ballet master Vasiliev, who wrote the libretto as well.

The ballet premiered in 1986 at Teatro di San Carlo in Naples and was recognised as the year’s best performance in Italy. Later in the year, it premiered at the Bolshoi Theatre. Anyuta is still part of its repertoire. In 1988, the ballet was first staged by the Tatar Opera Theatre.

“This is just a great show, with an excellent literary foundation, music and choreography. This is Vladimir Vasiliev’s best piece of work. This is a blending of the choreographic language and Anton Chekhov’s text. There is nothing eclectic here, nothing contrived, everything is very Russian and Chekov-style,” the ballet’s artistic director Vladimir Yakovlev told Tatar-inform.

The storyline is the life story of a girl named Anyuta from a poor family who, dazzled by the glamour of society, marries a wealthy official. Anna’s story is tragic in its commonness. The girl has to make a choice of living with her family in poverty or with a wealthy but unloved husband, and agrees to the latter.

The performance was accompanied with numerous bursts of applause and after the end the audience said good-bye to the actors with a standing ovation.
