They will dance opposite lead dancers of the Kazan company who came to our city from other countries.

(Kazan, May 26, Tatar-inform). The ballet La Bayadere, a love story of the Indian dancer Nikiya and brave soldier Solor, is tonight performed at the Tatar Opera and Ballet Theatre within the 24th International Nuriev Festival.

The primary parts will be performed by lead dancers from the National Ballet of Korea Lee Ho Kim (Nikiya) and Jun Yen Je (Solor), and the Tokyo National Ballet's principal Yuko Tanaka (Gamzatti). They are to dance opposite members of the Kazan company who came to the city from other countries, including Nurlan Kanetov, Ruslan Savdenov and Alexandra Surodeeva (Kazakhstan) and Kakhaber Andriadze (Georgia).

The ballet premiered in 1877 at the Mariin Theatre in Saint-Petersburg. Over the long history, the ballet has undergone a number of transformations, many choreographers, from Vakhtang Chabukiani to Rudolph Nuriev, trying to see it at different angles and offering original interpretations.
