International Opera Festival named after Fyodor Shalyapin (Chaliapin) 

The first festival was held in 1982 and had the republican status. Its program implied only operas from Chaliapin's repertoire.

The festival became the All-Russia event in 1985 and the international festival in 1991. For these years the repertoire of the festival has been enriched, and the number of participants increased also.

In different years the leading singers of the Bolshoy and Mariinsky Theatres took part in the festival performances as well as famous foreign singers. Among them Elena Obraztsova, Tamara Sinyavskaya, Irina Archipova,  Mariya Bieshu, Olga Borodina, Dmitry Hvorostovsky, Ildar Abdrazakov, Mikhail Kazakov, Renee Pape, Albina Shagimuratova, Ekaterina Syurina, Vladimir Matorin, conductors Valery Gergiev, Mikhail Pletnev and others.
